HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR APPROACH TO THERAPY?

I believe treatment is most effective when communicated with empathy and genuineness.  During the treatment process, you will be viewed as a physical, mental, and spiritual person. Therefore, I view counseling as a therapeutic relationship between you, who are here to take care of their mental health, and me, who will process and journey with you. To foster this relationship, I utilize a person-centered approach that draws from multiple modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and rational emotive behavior therapy. I have experience in treating anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, relationship conflict, attachment concerns, and more.

WHAT LED YOU TO BECOME A COUNSELOR?

My cliche but honest answer is I enjoy listening to people and problem solving. I soon found out that therapy is a lot more than just listening, but my love for the field continued to grow. I find it a great honor to have such a unique place in someone’s life- to be that objective sounding board who is also working to ensure their health and safety.

WHAT TRAININGS HAVE YOU COMPLETED AND HOW DO THEY RELATE TO YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?

I received my B.A. in Psychology from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Franciscan University. Additionally, I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I have seen these forms of treatment help clients understand where their behaviors are coming from as well as identify behaviors and thought processes that encourage change and healthy mindsets. Acceptance and Commitment therapy also includes mindfulness training which enables clients to self regulate in situations of high stress. The overarching goal of therapy is for the client to become their own therapists and I believe these modalities empower clients to do so.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE YOU CLIENTS TO KNOW?

You should know that I am not here to tell you what to do or how to live your life- you are the expert of your story!. As a counselor, I am someone who will reflect back to you your possibilities and more importantly the strengths you innately possess. In the therapy room, my aim is to provide a safe place, so that you come to realize the unique strength and power you hold. However, since each person is different, please let me know what a safe place might look like for you. In return you can expect humor, genuineness, and attentiveness from me.

PERSONAL NOTE - WHAT DO YOU LOVE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?

I enjoy long drives (except in the city), too much Netflix, and rainy weather (don’t make it weird).
